Jared Reimer took first place at the Marion High School cross country meet Thursday at Marion County Lake. Reimer paced Goessel to fourth place, six points behind Marion.
The Warriors were led by Jordan Hett, whose 17:41.92 finish was good for second place individually and helped lift Marion into third place among seven boys teams, trailing only Andover Central (52 points) and Wichita Independent (68).
Ryan Jones ran second for Marion with a fifth-place time of 18:15.74. Patrick McCarty (25th, 19:44.51), Michael Kirkpatrick (26th, 19:45.33) and Brandon Meierhoff (28th, 19:56.35) capped the Marion boys score at 78.
The MHS girls also placed third, with 76 points trailing Andover Central (43 points) and Burrton (59 points).
Monica Spachek (fourth, 16:02.62) and Jaclyn DeForest (fifth, 16:04.79) finished 1-2 for Marion. Elizabeth Goentzel (21st, 17:29.93), Jessie Taylor (36th, 19;12.71) and Whitney Christensen (44th, 21:05.23) gave Marion a total of 76 points?one fewer than fourth-place Haven.
Goentzel broke away from Haven?s Kelsey Goundry while chasing Goessel?s Kristen Hoffman (20th, 17:29.46). Hoffman finished a half-second ahead of Goentzel.
The Goessel boys varsity finishers were: Reimer (first, 17:31.33), Laird Goertzen (12th, 19:04.68), Derek Kruger (15th, 19:21.97), Lukas Kemkes (20th, 19:31.66) and Chad Wedel (51st, 21:33.13).
Canton-Galva also participated, with Justin Hiller (22nd, 19:36.11) as the first Eagle to finish. Canton-Galva did not record a team score.
Coming?Marion, Peabody-Burns, and Canton-Galva all will run at Halstead on Thursday. Goessel will run at Berean.
