With Elliot Ollenburger the only Trojan golfer to shoot under triple digits, Hillsboro placed seventh among eight teams competing at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Salina April 15.
Ollenburger finished 18 holes with a score of 91, to lead teammates Carson Herbel (104), Elias Werth (105) and Colin Settle (130).
Coach Scott O’Hare said he is pleased with the direction his squad is heading.
“Although we are still not where we believe we can be, overall this group continues to improve at an awesome rate,” he said.
Hillsboro improved its team score by 50 strokes from the season opener in Herington to the Trojans’ home invitational three days later. Even with Settle struggling at Sacred Heart, Hillsboro still managed a 20-stroke improvement at Salina.
“That’s an impressive improvement of over 70 strokes in less than two weeks,” O’Hare said. “Three of the five golfers (Ollenburger, Werth and Herbel) have improved on their individual scores each tournament.
“Although Colin has shot a couple higher rounds at Herington and Salina, he showed what he is capable of with the 103 he posted at our home tournament.”
Coming—The Trojans were scheduled to compete Monday at Sterling. Their next varsity meet will be May 3 at Halstead.
