Ollenburger fifth at Hillsboro invite

Hillsboro?s Elliot Ollenburger chips the ball onto the green during the Hillsboro Invitational Friday. He placed fifth individually with a score of 96.Led by a fifth-place medalist performance from Elliot Ollenburger, the Hillsboro golf team placed fifth among the seven schools that posted team scores Friday at the Hills?boro Invitational.

Ollenburger carded a 48 on both the front and back nine for an 18-hole total of 96, which placed him 17 strokes behind the winner, Dakota Davis of Chapman.

The remaining Trojans failed to break triple digits. Colin Settle was the closest at 103, Elias Werth shot a 113 and Ryan Flaming finished at 146. Carson Herbel was forced to withdraw during the tournament.

?Overall, the guys played much better on Friday,? coach Scott O?Hare said. ?Of course, the weather conditions where much better, plus we were on our own course, which helped.

?However, they are also continuing to improve. Their ball striking is getting more consistent and they are beginning to develop some confidence in their swings.?

Halstead won the team title with a 387 score. Hess?ton followed at 408, Chase County 430, Goessel 434, Hillsboro 458, Herington 471 and St. Johns Military 536.

?I?m very pleased that three of them improved their scores from Tuesday to Friday, and as a team we shot almost 50 strokes better?even with Carson having to withdrawal from the tournament,? O?Hare said. ?He was playing much better at the time, and our team score may have been even lower had he been able to finish.?

Herington?The Trojans finished 10th among 10 teams at their season opener.

Halstead won the team title with a score of 408; Hillsboro finished at 506, which was 36 strokes behind the No. 9 team from Reming?ton.

Individually, Elliot Ollen?burger earned a medal by placing seventh with an 18-hole score of 101. He was followed by teammates Colin Settle 127, Elias Werth 135, Carson Herbel 143 and Lane Flaming 146.

Coming?The Trojans will compete at Sacred Heart on Friday, then at Sterling April 18.
