MHS track opens with home meets

The Marion boys placed second behind McPherson at the Warrior Invitational track meet Friday with 125 points.

The Centre and Peabody-Burns boys tied for eighth with eight points.

Meanwhile, the Marion girls took eighth overall with 30 points. Peabody-Burns placed seventh with 33 and Centre 10th with 17.

?We competed very well and the results speak for themselves,? Marion coach Grant Thierolf said. ?I was very pleased with the throwing events and the rest of the field events.?

For the Marion boys, Conner Thierolf scored 24 points. Jordan Hett and Colten Johnson each contributed 16 points and Patrick McCarty scored 11.

For the girls, Kaelyn Thierolf scored 14 points and Whitney Gordon with eight. Erin Meirhoff and Alicia Maloney each contributed six points.

Seventeen Warriors set personal records, including Conner Thierolf in the shot put, javelin and discus, and Kaelyn Thierolf in the 1,600 and 3,200.

?On the track, our distance runners continue to get better and that is a result of the training they are putting in,? coach Thierolf said. ?As we get stronger and work on the technical side of things in the next few weeks, those times will get faster and faster.?

Marion CKTL?The Warriors experienced success at a five-team Central Kansas Track League meet Tuesday.

For the boys, Conner Thierolf took first in the shot put (40 feet, 31?2 inches) and Nick Meyer took fourth.

Colten Johnson won the javelin, Conner Thierolf took second and Spencer Fugitt third. John Nordquist placed fifth.

Mikael Antoszyk took fourth in the long jump with James Jones placing fifth.

Patrick McCarty won the triple jump (40-51?2), with Antoszyk taking fourth. McCarty also won the high jump (6-0), with Zach Hammond, James Jones and Jordan Versch coming in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hammond took second in the pole vault and Dillon Richmond fourth.

Johnson took second in the 110-meter hurdles, and Brody Carroll and Eric Regnier took fourth and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Jordon Hett took gold for the Warriors in the 1,600 (5:02), and second in the 3,200. McCarty placed third in the 400 and Michael Kirkpatrick was fifth in the 800.

Antoszyk, Carroll, Versch and Johnson took third in the 4×100 while Johnson, Jones, Carroll and McCarty placed second in the 4×400. Kirkpatrick, Jared Cope, Clark Kroupa and Timothy Knolla placed third in the 4×800.

For the girls, Kaelyn Thierolf won gold for Marion in the 3,200 (13:26) and Erin Meierhoff placed second in the 800.

Meierhoff, Whitney Gordon, Kelli Hess and Sarah Eurit took second in the 4×100, Gordon, Meierhoff, Katie Ehrlic, and Hess placed second in the 4×400.
