MHS softball splits with Inman at home, falters at Ell-Saline

The Marion softball team swept Inman at home April 26, then lost both games to an undefeated Ell-Saline team Friday, bringing their record to 3-7.

Inman? The Warriors won Game 1, 13-11. Marion tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, then scored the winning two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Shelby Percell provided an offensive boost for the Warriors, going 2-for-4 with two triples.

The Warriors won a high-scoring Game 2, 15-13.

Raelene Allen provided a double and a triple, and winning pitcher Megan Richmond helped the defensive effort.

?The girls kept the errors down, which has been a team goal of ours and makes such a difference in the outcome of the game,? coach Jill Hudson said.

Ell-Saline?Marion lost the first game, 8-1, managing just two hits against the home-team pitcher.

?We had base-runners, but failed to push them across the plate,? coach Jill Hudson said. ?They are good hitters with fast girls on the bases.?

In Game 2, Ell-Saline secured an 18-8 victory, taking an 8-4 lead going into the third inning. The Warriors had four hits but committed five errors. In contrast, Ell-Saline banged out 18 hits and committed three errors.

?They battled back with base hits and fantastic catches in the outfield,? Hudson said. ?They blew it open in the fifth and scored six, then scored five more in the sixth.?

Coming? The Warriors are scheduled to play a home game versus Hillsboro Friday
