MHS qualifies two wrestlers for state weekend

The Marion Warriors will send two wrestlers to the Class 3-2-1A State Championships Friday and Saturday in Hays.

Brody Carroll went 4-0 in regional competition last weekend in Beloit to win the title in the 130-pound weight class.

Teammate Randy Regnier went 4-0 to claim the title at 125 pounds.The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for state.

?These guys both had a great weekend and will go and compete for a state championship this weekend at Hays,? coach Chad Adkins said. ?Our other guys wrestled very well.?

Cole Lewman, at 3-2, was one match away from qualifying at 140. Andy Shipman also went 3-2 and missed qualifying by one match at 145 pounds.

Christian Larsen went 2-2 at 135. Galen Funk was 3-2 at 160, and was one match away from qualifying. Zac Lewman was 0-2 at 171.

Adkins said Funk and Shipman wrestled well and would be missed, as both are seniors.

?Zac improved all year and we are excited about what he will be able to do next year,? said Adkins, adding that Larsen and Lewman also wrestled well and he is looking forward to seeing them wrestle again next year.

Chase County? Marion wrestlers earned second place at the Chase County tournament Feb. 12. Wamego took first place, beating the Warriors by 5.5 points.

Three Warrior wrestlers won their weight classes.

Brody Carroll won the 130-pound class, Cole Lewman won at 140 and Andy Shipman took first at 145.

Eric Regnier took second at 119, and Randy Regnier placed second at 125. Andrew Kjellin took fourth at 171.

?We wrestled inconsistently Thursday (Feb. 10),? said coach Chad Adkins. ?Results for Saturday at Chase County were much better.?
