The Marion girls and boys track teams competed at the Beloit Invitational Friday after competing at the Berean CKTL at Marion April 24.
?At Beloit, we got a taste of what a day at the State Track Meet would be like,? said coach Grant Thierolf.
?The meet was delayed by a timing system and then by the weather and we were very pleased by how our athletes kept their focus and performed well.?
Beloit?Marion earned several top-three finishes against a tough field at the Beloit Invitational Friday.
?It was good to compete in the rain, wind and delays,? said coach Grant Thierolf. ?It was a good meet to prepare us for things down the road.?
Per usual Colten Johnson set the pace for the boys, taking Marion?s only gold in the pole vault with a leap of 12 feet, six inches. Johnson took silver the 300-meter hurdles in 40.89 seconds.
Earning bronze were Johnson in the 110 hurdles (15.66), Dakin Ledford in the javelin (149-5), Patrick McCarty in the 400 (51.85) and Jordan Hett in the 1600 (4:53) and 3200 (10:04).
Taking silver for the girls? squad were Whitney Gordon in the high jump (4-10) and Corey Shields in the shot put (35-4). Finishing in third were Shields in the discus (92-10), Kadecha Gueary (15-5) and Kaelyn Thierolf in the 1600 (5:51) and 3200 (12:44).
?We are starting to move some athletes around and try to find some more events to score in and the girls are doing a great job of being flexible and helping out where they can,? Thierolf said.
Berean?Marion competed at home April 24 at a CKTL meet hosted by Berean Academy.
Earning golds for the girls? squad were Alicia Maloney in the long jump, with a leap of 13 feet, 11.4 inches, and the pole vault (9-3), and Corey Shields in the discus (96-3) and shot put (33-8). Shields took bronze in the javelin.
Taking third for the boys were Kyle Palic in the discus and javelin and Lance Knolla in the 400. The 4×800 relay team also took bronze.
Coming ?The Warriors were scheduled to compete at Hesston Thursday before traveling to the Heart of America league meet at Bethel College May 11.
