The Marion County entries at the Class 3A state golf tournament last Tuesday (May 26) struggled at Tallgrass  Country Club in Wichita

After qualifying for the Class 3A tournament with a team score of 345 at Herington, the Marion High School golf team struggled to find its range and finished at 363.

Luke Gordon posted a team-best 85, but finished well off the pace individual champion Micheal Gellerman set for the 18-hole course. Gellerman?s 1-under round of 70 earned won the individual championship.

Wichita Collegiate took the team title behind the combination of Andrew Hourani (second, 74) and Craig Howell (third, 77).

Gordon placed 17th. Hillsboro representative Daniel Kunantaev tied for 20th with a round of 86.

?It was a rough day for Daniel,? Trojans coach Scott O'Hare said. ?He started out very well, but started struggling on the eighth hole and just never quite recovered.?

Kunantaev birdied No. 1, double-bogeyed No. 3, and climbed back to even with a birdie on No. 5. But after pars on consecutive holes, he went back over par with a triple bogey on the eighth hole.

Marion totaled 363 in team scoring, with Gordon, Scott Jones (92), Lindsay Hett (92) and Landon Leiker (94) posting the top four rounds. Niklas Bronnert (100) and Ryan Jones (100) also completed the course.
