MHS beats Chapman, loses to Rock Creek & Hoisington

The Marion High School volleyball team went 1-2 at Saturday?s tournament in Hillsboro, beating Chapman (25-17, 25-20) behind the serving of Kathy Goering, but falling to the tournament?s two top teams.

Rock Creek beat Hoisington in the first place game, and beat Marion (25-22, 25-15) in pool play. Hoisington beat Marion (25-19, 25-20) in the Warriors? first match of the day. The Warriors attack was powered by Julia Zeiner (2.8 kills per game), Whitney Gordon (2.7) and Kayley Heerey (2.0).

On Oct. 13, Marion swept Lyons (25-15, 25-21) and Haven (25-14, 25-9).

Zeiner (4.0 kills per game) and Gordon (4.5) powered the Marion attack.

Coming?Marion?s regular season ended Tuesday at Collegiate, with regionals set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Sedgwick.

The teams at Sedgwick include Hillsboro (25-7), Whitewater-Remington (28-8), Marion (23-9), Sedgwick (21-10), Halstead (12-19), Lyons (8-21), Gypsum-SE Saline (9-29) and Sterling (6-26). They will be seeded officially on Wednesday morning.
