Marion wrestlers take third place at Onaga

Marion wrestlers placed third out of five schools at the dual-format Onaga Tournament Friday.

The Warriors as a team went 3-2, beating out Pleasant Ridge, Onaga and Horton while losing to Burlington and Rock Creek.

Warrior coach Chad Adkins said the dual format put his team at a bit of a disadvantage, because their losses were to full teams and the Warriors had three open weight class, giving 18 points to the opposing team.

Eric Regneir went 3-2 and finished second in the 119-pound weight class. Teammate Randy Regneir went 5-0 and finished first at 125. Two Warriors placed second in their respective weight classes: Brody Carroll went 4-1, and Galen Funk went 3-2.

?Our kids wrestled well on their feet and were much more aggressive than we have been lately, said Adkins. ?Our young kids are getting better every time we wrestle, which is what we are looking for.?

He said they have lost some matches due to inexperience, but that the youth of his wrestlers will pay off later.

Coming? The Warriors will host a double-dual tournament at home this Thursday, before competing in a tournament at Chase County Saturday.
