Marion wrestlers runners-up at Onaga

The Marion wrestling team finished as the runner-up Friday behind Burlington at the Onaga Winter Duals with a 4-1 record.

The Warriors won their duals with Horton, Pleasant Ridge, Rock Creek and Onaga. Marion?s only loss was to Burlington.

Two Warriors established 5-0 records in their respective weight classes. Jarrett Johnson went 5-0 at 106 pounds; he pinned all four opponents he faced on the mat.

Luke Steele earned five victories at 160 pounds. He won by major decision, 11-2, over Josh Young of Burling?ton, then pinned Wyatt Fouts of Rock Creek and Quentin Lara of Onaga.

Five Warriors went 4-1:?Bryce Shults (120), Zac Lewman (182), John Nord?quist (195), Kyle Palic (220) and Dylan Cochran (285).

Four Warriors earned 3-2 records:?AJ Cogdill (113), Ezra Darnall (126), Reming?ton Putter (145) and Zac Dvorak (170).

Marion?Marion won both of its duals at a home double dual Thursday.

The Warriors opened with a 51-9 victory over a short-handed Eureka team featuring only six wrestlers. All four Marion wrestlers who took to the mat earned victories in their respective weight classes.

Jarrett Johnson pinned Dathon Weber at 113 pounds, Ezra Darnall pinned Kolltan Gibson at 132, Luke Steele won by a 7-1 decision over Dakota Cline at 160, and Adam Janzen pinned Cole Wolfsbauer at 170 pounds.

The Warriors then defeated Remington, who had eight wrestlers, 60-12. Remington?s only points resulted from two weight classes in which Marion was open.

Among wrestlers who faced an opponent, the Warriors went 6-0.

AJ Cogdill pinned Casey Shinkle (106), Johnson won by decision, 6-5, over Chris Owen (113), Remington Putter pinned Leaf Howell (145), Zac Lewman pinned Horatio Martinez (182), John Nordquist pinned Jacob Rowland (195) and Dylan Cochran won, 3-1, over Eric Ravenscraft (285).

Coming?Marion will participate in the Chase County invitational Saturday. Matches begin at 9 a.m
