Marion wrestlers 2nd at Hesston

The Marion wrestling team placed second with 135 points Saturday at the Hesston Invitational tournament.

Smoky Valley won the meet, scoring 169 points. A combination of Bluestem/Flinthills placed third with 113 points. Central (111) and McPherson (91.5) rounded out the top five.

Six Warriors placed individually.

Randy Regnier won the 125- pound weight class, defeating Halstead?s Terrin Bradfield 9-0 in the championship match.

Brody Carroll and Andy Shipman wrestled to second-place finishes. Carroll placed second at 130, losing to Halstead?s Riley Soward 8-2 in the championship match.

Shipman reached the championship match in the 135-pound weight class before falling to Antoine Bannister from Wichita West.

Cole Lewman and Evan Slater each placed third. Lewman lost by technical fall to eventual 140-pound champion Alex Thibault in the semifinal round, but bounced back to defeat Smoky Valley?s Ethan Loder with a pin at the 2:34 mark.

Slater also lost to the eventual champion, this time to Sione Siale in the 215-pound quarterfinals. Slater then defeated Wichita East?s Justin Rizzutto and Wichita West?s Daniel Duckworth for the bronze.

Colten Johnson rounded out the Warrior medals, placing fourth at 152. Johnson lost in the consolation round to Hillsboro?s Matt Wiebe to finish fourth.

Coming?Marion finishes its pre-Christmas schedule by co-hosting with Hillsboro the Marion County duals tournament Friday.
