Marion wrestlers 2-0 at Remington, go 1-4 at Onaga Dual Tournament

The Marion wrestling team swept Remington and Eureka at the Remington Dual Thursday, but struggled at the Onaga Dual Tournament Friday, going 1-4.

At Remington, Marion defeated the host team first, 59-3, then Eureka, 48-27.

?We wrestled well, for the most part,? coach Chad Adkins said about the event.

Friday at Onaga, Marion lost to the host school, 36-31, to Rock Creek, 44-19, to Burlington, 51-28, and to Pleasant Ridge, 48-33.

Marion earned the upper hand against Horton, 48-22.

?We didn?t fare well in the team scores,? Adkins said. ?Cole Lewman got hurt Thursday night and was unable to wrestle. That put us up to four open weights, which means we were giving up 24 points going into the duals.?

On the bright side, Adkins said, some of his Warriors wrestled the best they have all season.

?Brody (Carroll), Colten (Johnson), Beretta (Janzen), and Evan (Slater) wrestled really well this weekend,? Adkins said.

?Adam Janzen is wrestling junior varsity for us behind Colten and is wrestling very well. He has only lost one match all year.?

Carroll and Johnson each earned first-place finishes in the 138- and 160-pound weight classes, respectively.

Janzen placed second in the 106-pound weight class Friday and Slater also took second at 220 pounds.

Coming? The Warriors are scheduled to compete at the Smoky Valley Double Dual Thursday at Lindsborg, with matches starting at 4:30 p.m, before traveling to the Chase County Invitational starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
