Marion wrestler takes fifth at state

Marion?s two wrestlers earned 12 team points and a 36th-place ranking at the Class 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday in Hays.

The Warriors? Brody Carroll went 3-2 in the 130-pound weight class, earning a fifth-place medal.

Carroll lost 6-3 to Gage Younger of Ellis in the first round, then defeated Stetson Deets of Burden-Central, 17-6, and Michael Dusin of Phillips?burg 4-0 before being pinned by Riley Soward of Halstead.

To earn fifth place, Carroll defeated Jacob Schroeder of Silver Lake.

Teammate Randy Regnier went 0-2 in the 125-pound weight class. He lost to Cole Werner of Scandia-Pike Valley, 3-1, in the opening round before losing to John Rodriguez of Caney Valley, 8-2.

The state competition is the end of the wrestling season.
