Marion teams fifth at Hesston

The Marion girls? and boys? track teams each placed fifth at the Hesston Invitational Thursday. The boys posted 62 points and the girls 55.

?We are becoming pretty consistant in our performances, not going up and down from week to week, and that shows some maturity and some toughness,? coach Grant Thierolf said.

Colten Johnson won the boys? only gold medal, winning the javelin with a throw of 156 feet, 3 inches. Jordan Hett placed second in the 3,200 in 10 minutes, 56 seconds. Placing third was Johnson in the 110-meter hurdles (16.7) and Dakin Ledford in the javelin (152-2).

Winning fourth were Hett in the 1,600 (4:43), Patrick McCarty in the 400 (52.17), Conner Thierolf in the javelin (147-10) and shot put (43-10.5), the 4×400 team of James Jones, Johnson, Dillon Rich?mond and McCarty (3:39.6) and the 4×800 team of Jacob Cope, Timothy Knolla, Jordan Versch and Michael Kirkpatrick (9:38.7).

Placing fifth were the 4×100 team of Mikael Antosyk, Jordan Versch, Brody Carroll and Johnson (47.55), Carroll in the 300-meter hurdles (44.96) and Johnson in the pole vault (12-0).

?On the boys? side of things, once again we scored in virtually every section of the meet, which is a very good thing as we head into the league meet this week,? Thierolf said.

For the girls, Kaelyn Thierolf won the 1,600 (5:29) and 3,200 (11:36) and Whitney Gordon won the high jump (5-2). Alicia Maloney took second in the pole vault (8-0), Gordon placed third in the 100 hurdles (16.79) and Katie Ehrlich took fourth in the 300 hurdles (51.52).

Placing fifth were Corey Shields in the shot put (32-11) and discus (99-5) and the 4×100 team of Sarah Eurit, Gordon, Erin Meierhoff and Alicia Maloney (54.97).

?It was the best-scoring meet we have had all year,? Thierolf said.

Coming?The Warriors are scheduled to compete Friday at the Heart of America league meet at Bethel College in North Newton.
