Marion softball splits DH vs. Collegiate

In the first game of Tuesday?s home set with Collegiate, the Marion Warriors rallied behind a six-strikeout game from Sonja Steinborn to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 7-6 win.

In the first game of Tuesday?s home set with Collegiate, the Marion Warriors rallied behind a six-strikeout game from Sonja Steinborn to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 7-6 win.

In the top of the sixth, Collegiate plated three runs for a 6-5 lead.

Marion rallied to tie the game in the home half of the frame, and Steinborn threw only ten pitches while retiring Collegiate in order in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Erica Geis singled and stole second.

Lauren Helmer followed with a walk and Austin Percell drove in the winning run by clubbing the ball off of the Collegiate second baseman?s glove.

But Collegiate lashed out vengefully in the second game, scoring 13 runs in the first two innings.

Marion mounted a fierce rallied to make it 14-11 in the bottom of the fourth, but Collegiate sealed the game with three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.

The Warriors are in action again on Friday at Hoisington.
