Marion softball drops two games to Canton-Galva

The Marion softball team was swept by Canton-Galva April 12. The Warriors were to play Sedgwick at home Friday, but those games were rescheduled for Thursday due to weather.

The Warriors lost Game 1 to the Eagles, 11-4, managing eight hits to the Eagles? 10.

?We just had too many errors,? coach Jill Hudson said.

Marion lost Game 2, 18-4. The Warriors had seven errors to go with seven hits. The Eagles recorded 10 hits.

?They hit our pitcher pretty well,? Hudson said. ?They were pretty legit. They hit Rae Allen pretty good.?

The Warriors scored four runs in their first at-bat, but the Eagles responded by racking up six runs in the bottom of the first.

?It?s just silly errors in the field,? Hudson said. ?We go over that in practice, but in the game they freeze. They just lack confidence.

?We get two outs, and we cannot seem to get the third out, and that seems like that?s when a lot of teams score. They let down and lose focus and don?t finish the inning.?

Annie Whitaker went 2-for-2 in the second game, including a triple. Sarah Guetersloh got two hits the first game and one in the second game.

?Those two, and Raelene Allen, have been pretty consistent with hitting,? Hudson said.

Brittany Leffler had two singles and a double the first game. Allison Bressie had three runs batted in for the Eagles. Bressie also pitched both games for Canton-Galva.

Coming? The Warriors were scheduled to play at Bennington April 19 before playing a make-up doubleheader with Sedgwick Thursday.
