Jordan Hett led the Marion boys? cross-country team to a seventh-place finish Thursday at the Sterling Invitational.

The junior standout crossed the finish line of the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 37 seconds, good enough for fourth place in the field of 74 runners and 34 seconds behind the winner, Tyler Roberts of Sterling.

Also medaling for the Warriors was Patrick McCarty, who placed 17th in 18:36. He was followed by Jacob Cope (36th, 19:23), Timothy Knolla (58th, 20:56), Clark Kroupa (66th, 21:42) and Jared Hague (72nd, 23:07).

?Jordan had a hard finish and almost caught the third-place runner,? said head coach Rebecca Hofer. ?Patrick also had a great kick at the end and pasted runners on his way to the finish line.?

The team finished with 152 points, well behind the winning score of 57 by Ellinwood.

For the girls, Kaylyn Thierolf placed seventh, covering the 4-k course in 17:01.

?Kaelyn worked hard at this meet,? Hofer said. ?She was against some very fast runners and stayed with them through the wind.?

Elizabeth Goen?t?zel finished 47th in the field of 50 runners.

?The wind really made this meet a challenging run,? Hofer said. ?At times the runners were running directly into the wind up to 35 mph.

?I am proud of how hard they ran. However, I know that we can still improve.?
