Marion-Peabody Golf team competes close to home

The combined Marion/Peabody-Burns golf team competed in the Marion County 36-hole invitational Friday.

Each golfer played 18 holes in Marion and 18 holes in Hillsboro.

Max Caldwell paved the way for the Warriors with a 36-hole score of 219 (117 Marion, 102 Hillsboro), good for 30th place among a field of 39 golfers.

Hap Waddell shot a 231 (118, 113), good for 34th; Miles Olson 242 (130, 112), 36th; Koby Hett 256 (128, 128), 38th; and Anderson Waddell 271 (136, 135), 39th.

As a team, the Warriors finished sixth at Marion with a score of 493 and sixth at Hillsboro with a score of 455, for an overall sixth-place finish (948). Sacred Heart won with 591.

“Scores were better in the afternoon,” coach Tod Gordon said. “Golfers continued to improve the more holes they played. The kids are starting to show improvement.”

Tuesday’s home meet was cancelled.

Coming—The Warriors were scheduled to compete in the Heart of America meet at Hesston Monday. Marion will host a Class 2A regional Monday, May 13. Teams in the field in addition to the Warriors are: Inman, Sedgwick, Remington, Goessel, Hillsboro, Herington, Blue Rapids-Valley Heights, Rossville, Horton and Howard-West Elk.
