Marion drops league matches

The Marion volleyball team lost a pair of Heart of America league matches Tuesday at Moundridge.

Marion lost to Sterling, 26-24, 25-22. Laura Savage led the team with four kills, recording the team’s only positive hitting percentage (.125). Chloe Burkholder had eight digs and 11 assists.

Marion then lost to Moundridge in two sets, 25-19, 25-11. Savage hit .429, leading the team with three kills. Jayden May had 15 digs. Burkholder recorded seven assists.

“Our biggest challenge on Tuesday was our mental game. Physically, we were just as good as both of the teams we played, but we needed to be more mentally tough,” said Coach Kris Burkholder.

Marion will play in a league tournament on Saturday.

“I expect us to get out at our pool play, and I expect us to be playing in the semifinals and championship game. Our record does not show our true ability. The coaching staff believes that we are capable of beating anyone in our league,” said Coach Burkholder.

Coming—Marion (2-7, 11-16) was scheduled to conclude regular-season play at Berean Academy Tuesday. The Warriors will travel to Sterling Saturday for the Heart of America league tournament.
