Marion Cross Country places well at Abilene

Marion cross-country runners kicked off the season at Abilene on Thursday.

Heidi Grimmett highlighted the outing with a third-place finish in the girls’ 5K with a time of 23 minutes, 18.7 seconds.

“Heidi had a great run, staying in third place for the entire race and posting a very solid first 5K,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Bethany Grimmett finished 38th (35:30.1).

“Bethany did a nice job of keeping a steady pace through the race and finished strong,” Thierolf said.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ race, sophomore Colton Boudreaux turned in a personal-best time of 21:26.0, good for 18th place. His previous best was 22:53.22.

“Colton ran a nice first race of the season, always keeping the leaders in sight and finishing hard,” Thierolf said.

Braxton Schuh crossed the finish line in 25:18.8, finishing 42nd overall.

“Braxton had a great first run, first 5K he had ever run,” Thierolf said. “We look forward to watching the improvement from all of these runners.”
