The Marion cross country team opened the 2013 season at Abilene Thursday.
?It was a great day for a cross-country race,? coach Rebecca Hofer said. ?It was hot, but not unbearable, and I felt everyone ran well for our first meet.?
Timothy Knolla led the Warrior boys in the 5-kilometer?race with a 10th-place finish in 19 minutes, 57.1 seconds.
Also running were Jared Hague (21:40.4, 21st), Quin?ton Hett (23:07.7, 35th), Seth Savage (24:33.4, 41st) and Taylor Fahey (25:09.1, 44th).
McKenzee Remmers led the Marion girls in the 4-k race, placing seventh in 17:22.7.
Completing the girls? team were Brittany Hett (23:00.0, 39th), Kaylie Waner (23:19.1, 40th), Shyla Harris (23:43.6, 42nd) and Sarah Tajchman (23:53.1, 43rd).
?For many on our team, it was their first cross-country race ever and that can be intimidating, but they all survived,??Hofer said. ?There was also tons of improvement from our returning runners compared to their 2012 Abilene finishes.?
Coming?The Warriors will compete Thursday at Hesston, where participating teams range from Class 1A to 6A. Runners will compete with their grade level, with the freshman girls kicking off the meet at 4 p.m.
Additional races are set to begin every 15 minutes.
