Marion bats split with Bennington at home doubleheader



The Marion softball team lost their first game against Bennington April 17 but rallied to pick up a shut-out win in Game 2 for the home doubleheader sweep. The split puts the Warriors at 5-9 overall.

Marion suffered a 10-0 defeat in six innings for Game 1, allowing the Bulldogs eight unanswered runs in the second and third innings.

?We played the worst game of our season in Game 1,? said coach Chad Adkins. ?I am proud of the girls for fighting back and playing like they are capable of in Game 2.?

Fight back they did, shutting down the Bulldog bats and earning the 10-0 shut-out in five innings. They scored all their runs in the first three innings, earning three in the first and third and four in the second inning. Megan Richmond and Montana Percell set the pace at the plate for the Warriors, batting 0.500 against Bennington and earning three runs-batted-in each.

?We are really fighting for consistency right now,? Adkins said. ?We will keep working hard.?

Coming ?Marion was scheduled to travel to Inman April 24 before hosting Ell-Saline Friday.
