Kids club wrestles at Maize and Newton/Hesston

The Hillsboro Wrestling Club had four wrestlers competing at the Maize ?Battle for the Belt? Tournament and 14 others compete at the Newton/Hesston Invitational.

Daniel Gomez, Tristan Rath?bone and Jordon Bachman competed in open brackets of the Maize tournament, while Devin Gomez competed in the championship bracket, which is intended for state caliber competitors.

Daniel Gomez (3-1 record) placed second in 6 & under, Rathbone placed fourth at 3-2 in 8 & under, Bachman finished 0-2 and Gomez 3-2 in 10 & under.

Following are the results of the Newton/Hesston tournament.

? 6 & under: Cooper Hefley 1-4, Evan Jones 0-5, Layne Clark 2-3 (fourth), Seth Mader 1-4, Lane Mayfield 0-3, Carson Batterton 3-1 (second), Lane Rogers 1-2 (third), Camden Padgett 3-0 (first), Tyler Ayers 1-2 (third), Connor Padgett 2-0 (first).

? 8 & under: Garrett Helmer 2-2 (third).

? 10 & under: Raymond Johnston 2-1 (second), Trevor Jasper 0-4.

? 12 & under: Dawson Jost 0-3 (second).

Several members of the club will be competing in the Team Lightning Open this Saturday at Hutchinson.
