Jones runs 2nd at Hesston

Paced by a second-place run from Ryan Jones, the Marion High School cross country boys placed 10th out of 22 teams at the Hesston Invitational Thursday.

Without top runners Camille Christensen and Amanda Richmond, the Warrior girls finished 17th out of 22.

Christensen sat out with an injury and Richmond missed the race because of illness, leaving Jaclyn DeForest to pace the team. DeForest did not disappoint, setting a new personal record and finishing 16th with a time of 17 minutes, 33 seconds.

Anna Laurin (38th, 19:07), Jessie Taylor (29th, 19:30), Taylor Harms (33rd, 19:41) and Bridgett Lundy (57th, 19:54) rounded out the varsity race.

Jones? 17:56 in the boys race was a new personal best. Louis Holt placed sixth with an 18:45 run.

But two of coach Bethany Carlson?s top five did not compete, and without varsity regulars Andy Shipman and Brandon Meierhoff, the Warriors top placers were Michael Kirkpatrick (16th, 19:38), Philip Gu (26th, 22:11), Derek Stuchlik (34th, 22:46), Adam Molleker (42nd, 23:27), Max Wagner (31st, 23:57), and Galen Funk (47th, 25:59).
