Two returning state qualifiers will anchor Centre?s golf team this season.
The senior duo?Kodey Johnson and Dylan Svitak?finished 30th and 32nd, respectively, among 100 participants in Hutchinson last year, and are expected to be key contributors again this season, according to coach Greg Wyatt.
Wyatt also will rely on juniors Karl Riffel and Sualeha Mustafa, sophomore Courtney Hett, and freshmen Trevor Williams, Jacob Matz, Nathaniel Engler and Tyler Bentz.
?Kodey and Dylan will be the strength of our team,? Wyatt said. ?The remaining team members are young and will have to work at improving their game, especially their short game and putting.?
Scoring as a team, Wyatt said, will depend on a few factors.
?Depending on how hard each person works will determine what kind of progress we have and what kind of scores they will post at our meets this year,? he said. ?Weather conditions will also play a role in how well these kids score during the season.?
Wyatt said Centre does not have a league competition, but in May the Cougars will compete at a combined tournament in Hesston involving Wheat State and Heart of the Plains teams.
?It all depends on work ethic, short game, putting, and weather and course conditions on how well we do this year,? Wyatt said.
The Cougars will open play at Herington April 2.
