The format started with four four-team pools with round-robin dual matches within. Two pools were assigned to each of the host schools. Schools were then assigned to a bracket based on their pool records to compete for final placing.
Marion opened pool play with a 44-31 loss to Welling?ton, the eventual tournament runners-up.
The Warriors then defeated Republic County in Round 2, 50-24.
Marion completed the third round with a 60-21 win over Douglass for a 2-1 record in pool play behind Wellington?s 3-0. That put the Warriors in the fifth-place consolation bracket.
Marion first faced off against Clearwater, and lost, 44-36. The Warriors then matched up with Riley County to determine seventh place. Marion won, 54-30, to finish with a 3-2 record for the day.
Two Warriors completed a perfect 5-0 record: Adam Janzen in the 170-pound weight class and Kyle Palic at 220.
Eight additional Marion wrestlers posted winning records. Jarrett Johnson (106), Bryce Shults (120), Ezra Darnall (126) and John Nordquist (195) all went 4-1, while Luke Steele (152), Zac Dvorak (160), Zac Lewman (182) and Nick Meyer (285) went 3-2.
Completing the Warrior roster were Noah Albin (2-3, 113), Paul Stratman (1-4, 138) and AJ Cogdill (0-1, 106).
?The kids wrestled well,? coach Chad Adkins said. ?We gave up a couple opens, which cost us in the end. We will continue to work hard over break and get ready for the second half of the season.?
