Hinerman qualifies for 2A state

Jonathan Hinerman will be the lone Hillsboro Trojan running in the Class 2A cross-country meet in Wamego on Saturday.

The senior placed fifth at the Meade regional race last Saturday with a time of 17:59 over the 5-kilometer course.

Caleb Rempel placed 21st among the 67 finishers with a time of 19:31. He was followed by teammates Moss Tucker (44th, 21:28), Avery Unruh (65th, 25:56) and Orin Blecha (67th, 28:20).

Caleb Carrasco of Stan­ton County won the race by just over a second with a time of 16:42.

As a team, Hillsboro placed eighth among nine teams.

In the girls’ race, Abby Driggers was Hillsboro’s top finisher by placing 27th with a time of 24:59. Millie Sechrist placed 41st among 55 runners in 27:22.

Rebecca Avalar of Stan­ton County won the girls’ race in 19:46.

Coming—The Class 2A boys’ race is scheduled to begin at 11:10 a.m. at the Wamego Country Club.
