Hinerman paces HHS at Wamego

Hillsboro junior Jona?than Hinerman placed 13th among 130 runners competing in the Class 3-2-1A cross-country race at Wamego Saturday.

Hinerman finished the 5-kilometer state course in 18 minutes, 16.7 seconds?just over 2 minutes behind the winner.

?Jonathan?s time was his fastest time ever for a 5-k by over 30 seconds, which shows how well he ran,? coach Stuart Holmes said.

In the junior varsity girls? race, freshman Abby Drig?gers earned a medal by placing 22nd in a field of 130 finishers. She completed the 4-k course 19:23.4, which was 1:54 behind the winner.

?Jonathan and Abby both medaled, and I thought ran their most outstanding race of their careers so far,? Holmes said. ?Both ran really smart and determined races which led to their outstanding results.?

The boys? JV race drew 151 runners, including Hillsboro freshmen Caleb Rempel, (57th, 21:35), Tucker Moss (77th, 22:24) and Samuel Damon (112th, 24:05).

The threesome improved their time from the previous week by 2 to 3 minutes.

?They all had a better sense of the pace and showed good determination to push through the discomfort that goes with running a little over three miles,? Holmes said.

Coming? The Trojans will run Thursday in the Centre Invitational at the Herington Country Club with races starting at 4 p.m.
