Senior Jonathan Hinerman set the pace for the Hillsboro cross-country time once more with a fourth-place finish in a field of 61 runners Thursday at the Berean Invitational at Harvey County East Lake.
Hinerman covered the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes flat, trailing the winner, Ben Martin of Trinity Academy, by 30 seconds.
In the girls’ varsity race, sophomore Abby Driggers finished 32nd among 40 runners in 25:21. Erin Topham of Berean won with a time of 20:30.
In the junior varsity boys’ race, Caleb Rempel placed fifth in 20:17, just over a minute behind the winner, Will Brown of Trinity. Also running in the field of 76 runners were Tucker Moss (19th, 22:02), Orin Blecha (60th, 26:27) and Avery Unruh (66th 27:18).
In the girls’ JV race, Millie Sechrist placed eighth among 27 runners in 28:02 and Anna Baugh placed 25th in 39:22.
“I feel like overall this was one of the better meets of the season,” said Trojan coach Robert Haude. “For a couple of our runners, this was their best meet of the season.
“We hope to continue to improve over the next couple weeks as we look forward to our league meet in Halstead (Oct. 13).”
Coming—The Trojans’ next race will be Thursday at the Sterling Invitational. Races begin at 3:30 p.m.
