Hinerman fifth at Centre Invitational

Hillsboro?s lone varsity entry placed fifth Thurs?day in the Centre Invita?tional boys? 5-k race at Herington.

Jonathan Hinerman, a junior, crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 25 seconds to finish ahead of 38 runners in the field. Steven Cline of Halstead won the race in 17:09.9.

?Jonathan?s strong race earned him his first varsity top-five finish of his cross-country career,? coach Stuart Holmes said.

In the boys? junior varsity race, Caleb Rempel placed 17th (23:30.9) in a field of 43. He was followed by teammates Tucker Moss (20th, 23:48.3), Tristan Donaldson (23rd, 24:27.1), Samuel Damon (25th 25:20) and Avery Unruh (36th, 29:14.8).

Freshman Abby Driggers (25:26.7) and senior Lydia Kliewer (26.03.1) finished 1-2 in the girls? JV race while Allison Maxfield (30:53.6) placed seventh.

?Abby trimmed 19 seconds off her school record for the new girls? 5K distance,? Holmes said.

In the seventh-grade girls? race, Jessi Dalke and Mercy Damon finished third and fourth out of seven runners. Millie Sechrist placed sixth in the eighth-grade race.

In the seventh-grade boys? race, Caleb Diener placed second among 19 runners. He was followed by teammates Paul Glanzer (seventh), Noah Bartel (eighth) and Aidan Unruh (11th).

?Our training has been going well, and so it was good to see that hard work pay off with so many of the middle school runners earning medals,? Holmes said.

Coming?Hillsboro was scheduled to compete at the Southeast of Saline Invita?tional Tuesday.
