Hillsboro’s Bachman goes 0-2 in state debut

Jordan Bachman’s debut at the Class 1-2-3A wrestling tournament ended with losses in his first two matches.

In Round 1, Kel Grafel of Decatur Community defeated the Trojan freshman by technical fall over Bachman. In the first consolation round, Bachman lost by major decision (15-7) to Charles King of St. Marys.

“We are very proud of Jordan and glad he earned this opportunity to compete at the state tournament as a freshman,” coach Scott O’Hare said. “Although it didn’t go quite as we had hoped, I believe this was a great experience for him. He now has a better sense of the atmosphere, the competition, and what will be necessary to succeed at that level.”

O’Hare said he is confident that Bachman, who finished the season with a 29-10 record, has the technique and physical abilities to compete at a level necessary to get on the podium in Hays.

“Those abilities will only continue to progress as he matures and gains additional experience,” O’Hare said. “We have had plenty of conversations throughout the season, and he is very well aware of what is holding him back at this time.

“As he gains more confidence and learns to trust his abilities, I believe he will have a solid career for our wrestling program.”
