The Hillsboro High golf team, comng off its best performance of the season last week at the league tournament, took another giant step forward by winning the Class 3A regional golf tournament Monday at Council Grove.
The Trojans combined for a total score of 350 to outpace second-place Eureka by 13 strokes. Marion placed sixth in the nine-school field with a 373.
Daniel Kunantaev led the way for Hillsboro with an 18-hole score of 79, one stroke behind the top individual, Tyler Keplar of Council Grove.
Complementing the senior?s effort for the winning four-man score were Daniel Dick with an 82 (fifth), Jared King with a 95 (15th) and Devin Dick with a 98 (20th). Evan Just shot a 102 (32nd) in a field of 47 golfers.
Marion?s Lindsay Hett and Landon Leiker qualified for state as individuals by shooting a 91 (fourth) and 86 (eighth), respectively.
Also competing for Marion were Tim Costello (95, 16th), Jordan Versch (97, 19th), Scott Jones (101, 30th) and Adam Moeller (103, 33rd).
The Class 3A state tournament will be next Monday at the Smoky Hills Country Club at Hays.
