Hillsboro tennis team struggles at Hesston

Hillsboro competed Saturday at the Hesston Tennis Invitational.

As a team, the Trojans placed ninth among nine schools with 18 points.

Hesston won the team title with 79 points, followed by Andover Central 68, Wichita Independent 64, Smoky Valley 60, Wichita Collegiate 42, Central Plains 40, Salina Sacred Heart 29, Elyria Christian 22.

Ellian Weisbeck, Hills­boro’s lone entry in singles, lost her first two matches, then came back to win her next two to place 13th in the field of 16 players.

The doubles team of Kayla Gunn and Kailee Funk went 1-3 for the day to finish 14th. The doubles team of Kyla Isaac and Cheyenne Bern­hardt went 0-3.

Coming—Hillsboro will travel to Lyons on Monday.
