Hillsboro struggles with a dominate Haven squad

Joey Young / Free PressHAVEN- Against one of the best girls basketball teams in Class 3A, the Hillsboro Girls Basketball team struggled to get stops and lost on the road to Haven, 54-26.

Haven got on Hillsboro quick and early with a 17-9 lead after one quarter, and had the lead at 28-15 by halftime.

Both Kinsey Kleiner and Jessica Saunders had 10 points in the game to tie for a team lead offensively.

The game was tighter against Pratt the Tuesday prior, but the outcome was the same, losing 34-26.

Hillsboro was within a field goal of Pratt after the first quarter, 8-6, and the Trojans kept just out of reach the whole game until the Greenbacks went on a 12-5 run in the fourth quarter.

Kleiner lead the team with seven points in the defensive battle.

Coming- Coming- Hillsboro hosts and plays in the Trojan Classic this week. Hillsboro (2-5) came in as the No. 6 seed and was scheduled to play Eureka (6-1) on Tuesday. If Hillsboro advances, they play the winner of Hesston (7-1) and Republic County (1-7) at 6 p.m. at the high school. If they lost, they will play Friday at 6 p.m. in the Tabor gym. The championship game is Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at the high school. The other teams playing in the tournament are Clay Center (7-0), Holcomb (0-7), Riley County (5-1) and Remington (2-5).
