The Hillsboro Golf team took second in the Regional Tournament last week securing themselves a spot at the State Golf Tournament on Monday, May 20 at Hesston Golf Park.
Avery Unruh placed first with a score of 17.
“I’m very proud of Avery on his round and for winning the individual title. Although he still hasn’t posted the kind of round that he is striving for, he continues to do so many things better in his short two year career,” said Coach Scott O’Hare. “I am excited for him to have another opportunity to play one more round of high school golf and to compete in his second consecutive state tournament.”
Freshmen Rylie Daniels came in at 16th with a score of 52. Freshmen Eli Dalke scored a 53 and ended up in 19th place. Sophomore Paul Glanzer came in at 24th with a score of 57. And Frank Wichert, freshmen, came in close behind in 26th with his score of 58.
“Based on results throughout the year and how our team has competed recently, going into regionals, I felt like we had a legitimate shot at qualifying as a team if we played well. I figured we would have a realistic shot if we could post something in the 390s to low 400s. I would have never guessed we would make it as a team with a score like we had today. Although it was well above what we had hoped for, and are capable of, it is awesome to get this young group through the regional and advanced to state competition. It will be a great learning opportunity for the underclassmen,” said O’Hare.
