Hillsboro, Marion well represented on last all-MCAA team

Hillsboro and Marion were well-represented on the final all-league football team for the Mid Central Activities Association, as selected by the league?s 12 coaches.

Seven Trojans (6-4 overall, 3-3 league) were recognized at 10 positions.

Leading the way was junior Ben Bebermeyer, who was a first-team pick at defensive back and at punt/kick returner and was a second-team pick at receiver.

Bebermeyer averaged nearly 14 yards per punt return and 27 yards per kickoff return and scored one touchdown in both venues. As a defensive back, he picked off five passes, and as a receiver caught 46 passes for 894 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Junior Ethan Frantz was a first-team pick for the offensive line and a second-team pick on the defensive line, where he was involved in 68 tackles.

Senior quarterback Jacob Fish was selected as the second-team quarterback after putting up school-record passing numbers in almost every category: 103 completions in 240 attempts for 2,216 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Senior Jacob Edwards, with 28 catches for 531 yards and six touchdowns, was picked for the second team at receiver.

Senior Taylor Hagen and junior Caleb Hilliard were both second-team selections at linebacker. Hagen led the Trojans in tackles, picked off two passes and recovered one fumble while Hilliard picked off two passes, recovered two fumbles and was second in tackles.

Junior Chance Reece received honorable mention at running back with 521 yards on 138 carries and scored five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Marion (6-3, 5-2), had seven athletes selected at nine positions.

Nick Klenda led the way with first-team selections as defensive lineman and punter, and received honorable mention at receiver/tight end. Klenda averaged just over 39 yards on 23 punts and caught three passes for 60 yards.

Also selected for the first team were Parker Ash as a lineman and Sheldon Boone as a running back. Boone rolled up 969 yards on 164 carries and scored nine touchdowns for the Warriors.

Receiving second-team recognition on defense were Eric Vogel as a lineman, Tylor Neil at linebacker and Mitch Cady as back.

Wichita Collegiate, the undefeated league and Class 3A state champion led all teams with 10 athletes recognized at 14 positions, including eight on the first team.
