Hillsboro Kids Wrestling Club competes in three regional weekend tournaments

Members of the Hillsboro Kids Wrestling Club competed in three tournaments over the weekend.

Devin Gomez went 3-2 at the Salina Tournament of Cham?pions on Saturday. The event drew participants from up to a half-dozen surrounding states.

?This is considered one of the toughest tournaments in the state every year, including numerous state places, state champions and national place winners,? said Scott O?Hare club director.

Four local wrestlers competed the same day at the Clear?water Open. Garrett Helmer went 3-1 to place second in his class, Tristan Rathbone went 3-2, Jordon Bachman 3-2 and Ryan Bradford 0-4.

On Sunday, 14 wrestlers competed at the Marion Rhino Rumble. Cooper Hefley was third in his class at 1-2, Evan Jones fourth at 1-2; Daniel Gomez second at 1-1, Seth Mader fourth at 0-3, Josiah Wiebe fourth at 0-4, Carson Batterton first at 3-0, Camden Padgett first at 3-0, Lane Rogers fourth at 0-3, Tyler Ayers third at 1-2, Connor Padgett first at 3 0, Tristan Rathbone second at 2-1, Jordon Bachman third at 1-2, Jasper Lackey third at 1-2, Raymond Johnston second at 2-1, Trevor Jasper third at 1 – 2 and Dawson Jost second at 2-1.

This Saturday, four Hillsboro wrestlers will compete at the Maize Battle for the Belt Open Tournament and 15 will compete at the Newton/Hesston Open.
