Hillsboro hosts tennis invitational

Hillsboro?s Jacob Isaac returns volley during his first match in No. 2 singles. Isaac lost to Circle?s Lander Walker, 8-6, and finished in seventh with a 1-2 record.The Trojan tennis team competed with two players at the Hillsboro Invitational Thursday at the Sports Com?plex and Tabor College courts.

Both Dakota Klein and Jacob Isaac placed seventh in their respective divisions with 1-2 records.

Playing No. 1 singles, Klein lost 8-0 to Kyler Com?ley of Sterling and 8-0 to Travis Biehler of Circle before defeating Ethan Blixt of Chapman, 8-0.

In No. 2 singles, Isaac lost 8-6 to Lander Walker of Circle and 8-0 to Koltan Alloway of Conway Springs before defeating Matthew Ballay of Chapman, 8-1.

?It was great for Dakota and Jacob to each get a singles win this week,? coach Stuart Holmes said. ?They both did a good job of persevering in the wind, and there was noticeable improvement. We?ll keep working at continuing to improve our consistency.?

Smoky Valley won the team title with 57 points, followed by Hutch Trinity and Sterling, both with 55, Con?way Springs 39, Circle 27, Sacred Heart 25, Chapman 6 and Hillsboro 5.

Smoky Valley?Hills?boro?s three-man team went 0-6 at the Smoky Valley Invita?tional April 5.

The doubles team of Jacob Isaac and Dakota Klein lost 8-0 to Murphy and Edwards of Wichita Colle?giate, 8-2 to Bajaj and Squires of Collegiate and 8-6 to Wilson and Whitfield of Pratt.

In singles, Dylan Wiens lost 8-0 to Kendrick Weaver of Hesston, 8-2 to Hayden Skaggs of Pratt and 8-0 to Ben Peltier of Concordia.

Coming?The team was set to compete at Sterling April 12 and at Towanda April 14 before hosting the Trojan Invita?tional April 19. The home tournament begins at 3 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
