Hillsboro, Hesston split games Monday

Free throws made the difference Monday night as Hillsboro escaped Hesston with a 57-52 win in double overtime in their make-up game from Feb 1.

The Swathers missed four free throws in regulation that could have won the game and at the end of the second overtime.

Hillsboro connected on nine of 10 free throws to keep the Swathers at bay on the way to the victory.

Tena Loewen led Hillsboro with 17 points and Addie Lackey added 14.

The win bumped the Trojans to 3-1 in the league and 12-3 overall, while Hesston slipped to 3-1 and 11-4.

In the boys? game, Hillsboro fell behind Hesston 23-8 in the first quarter and were never able to catch upas the Swathers downed the Trojans, 58-41, in another fast-paced contest.

Ben Bebermeyer led the Trojans with 12 points while Brett Weinbrenner added nine.

The loss was Hillsboro?s first in league play at 3-1 while Hesston improved to 3-1. The Trojans are 8-7 for the year while the Swathers are 12-3.
