Hillsboro Golf Team hits two tournaments over week

The Hillsboro golf team had two tournament last week. They participated in the Herington Invitational Golf Tournament on Tuesday, April 2, and then hosted the Hillsboro Invitational on Friday, April 5.

Senior Avery Unruh took tenth place with a score of 104. The four other golfers fell into 24th to 30th places.

“Our first tournament at Herington was an eye opening experience. With Avery being our only returning varsity team member, four of them were playing in their first 18 hole varsity tournament. Due to their limited golf experience, along with the stress and anxiety that comes with playing in a competitive setting, I’m not entirely surprised by their relatively high scores. However, I do believe all of them have the potential to improve on these scores tremendously. Finding consistency and increasing their confidence in what they are capable of will be key factors on how quickly the improvements can happen for each of them,” said Coach Scott O’Hare.

In spite of hosting the tournament on Friday, only two team members played since the rest had other commitments, Rylie Daniels and Zach Dittert. Daniels took 28th with a score of 120 and Dittert’s 125 score secured him 33rd place.

“Both Rylie and Zach struggled at times during their rounds, but still managed improvement over their scores on Tuesday. Zach improved by four strokes and Rylie improved by an impressive thirteen strokes,” said O’Hare. “We have a long way to go for this team to get to a competitive level, but I have been very pleased with their efforts and attitudes in working towards that goal.”

Coming- The Trojans will next play at t1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Tournament on Thursday, April 11.
