Hillsboro gets big victory over Sacred Heart, 45-31

Hillsboro secured another win at home Friday night beating Sacred Heart 45-31.

The Trojans hit the game hard from the beginning scoring 27 points in the first quarter alone. Brooks Gardner led the team with a 90 yards rushing and four touchdowns, one of which he scored early in the first quarter.

Sacred Heart fought back scoring a touchdown midway through the first. They tried again, but their pass was intercepted by sophomore Dillon Boldt who ran the ball back 16 yards to score another touchdown for Hillsboro.

“It felt really good to run way past the endzone,” said Boldt. “We planned that play for a few weeks so I was ready for it which is good on the part of the coaches. Everyone did their part.”

Hillsboro continued to dominate in the second quarter.

A majority of the points were secured by Hillsboro in the first two quarters where five of the touchdowns were scored. Jorge Hanschu helped cinch the victory with 326 passing yards and three touchdowns of his own.

The score going into the second half was 33-17. Sacred Heart managed to score another touchdown but remained behind 33-24.

Hillsboro maintained the lead and went on to win the game with two more touchdowns in the final quarter.

Caleb Potucek was a big contributor for Hillsboro with two touchdowns and 161 yards of total offense.

Hillsboro will play Wabaunsee this Friday night at home for Homecoming. Kickoff is at 7p.m.
