HHS,MHS to play 3A state

Led by Daniel Kunantaev?s 71, Hillsboro placed third at the Southeast of Saline regional Monday to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament May 26 at Tallgrass Country Club in Wichita.

The Trojans (339) placed three strokes behind second-place Halstead, but trailed champion Wichita Collegiate (296) by a wide margin.

Jacob Kenny (87), Daniel Dick (89) and Jared King (92) rounded out Hillsboro?s top four. Devin Dick shot 97 and Evan Just 104.

Marion placed first at Monday?s Herington Regional with a team score of 345. Luke Gordon (79) posted the best score of the day, and was supported by Landon Leiker (83), Scott Jones (90) and Niklas Bronnert (93). Lindsay Hett shot 96 and Ryan Jones shot 98.

MCAA?Daniel Kunantaev and Luke Gordon battled to a tie for second place at 2-over at the league golf tournament May 11 at Marion Country Club.

Kunantaev won a one-hole playoff to claim second place, but the Warriors edged Hills?boro by one shot to claim fourth place in team scoring.

Combined with Lindsay Hett?s 80, Gordon?s 74 lifted Marion to a total of 333. Niklas Bronnert (88) and Landon Leiker (91) finished out the top four.

Kunantaev was backed by Daniel Dick (86), Jared King (87) and Devin Dick (87).

Hesston?Hillsboro High placed fifth among 11 teams at the Hesston Invitational Golf Tournament May 5.

Wichita Collegiate won the title with a score of 300. Hills?boro finished at 348.

Daniel Kunantaev led the Trojans with a sixth-place individual score of 77. lso competing for HHS were Jake Kenney (88, 27th), Jared King (88, 28th), Devin Dick (94, 40th), Thane Hurst (98, 48th) and Daniel Dick (105, 56th).
