The Hillsboro tennis team competed at the Smoky Valley Invitational on Thursday, then took the court for the Heeston Invitational on Saturday.
At Smoky Valley. the Trojans won three matches.
In No. 1 singles, Becky Faber, defeated Courtney Mead of Russell 8-3, lost to Miranda Weaver of Hesston 8-1, lost to Rachel Struder of Claflin 8-0, and lost to Kelsey Sanborn of Abilene 8-5.
In No. 2 singles, Kelsey Bartel, lost to Stephanie Weaver of Smoky Valley 8-6, defeated Sarah Tajchman of Chapman 8-6, and lost to Kylee Bonham of McPherson 8-4.
In No. 1 doubles, Emma Heyen and Aubrey Meier, lost to Sarah Brummett and Angela Koehler of Hutchinson Trinity 8-7 (8-6), lost to Tamera Garner and Tonya Garner of Chapman 8-1, and lost to Bailey Driscoll and Brittany Rohr of Russell 8-2.
In No. 2 doubles, Elise Heyen and Hayley Pankratz, lost to Abby Gengler and Emma Flynn of Smoky Valley 8-3, lost to Ashley Allmon and Molli Schmidt of McPherson 8-1, and defeated Amber Zumbrun and Samantha Jansen of Chapman 8-5.
At Hesston, the meet was set up as pool play in each division.
Faber in No. 1 singles lost to Wichita Independent?s Caroline Lincoln, who eventually won the meet, 8-0, then lost to Sacred Heart?s Moe Mikinski, 8-3, and defeated Smoky Valley?s Sammie Aeschliman, 8-5. She played for fifth, but lost to Andover?s Nel Mihelic, 8-1.
In No. 2 singles, Bartel lost to Independent?s Colleen Zirkle, 8-1, lost to Sacred Heart?s Chelsea Ellis, 8-1, and defeated Smoky Valley?s Stephanie Weaver, 8-7 (7-5). She also played in the fifth-place match, but lost to Wichita Collegiate?s Jillian Johnson, 8-1.
Those two sixth-place finishes accounted for all of Hillsboro?s 4 team points.
The Trojans did not field a No. 1 doubles team, but in No. 2 doubles Aubrey Meier and Hayley Pankratz lost their matches to Independent 8-0, to Sacred Heart 8-1, to Smoky Valley 8-0, and to Andover 8-0.

?Our sophomores are continuing to get better, and we are trying different lineups.

The Trojans were scheduled to play again at Hesston Tuesday, Sept. 16, and have a junior varsity dual at home Thursday, then the varsity travels to Collegiate next Tuesday.
