HHS, MHS players receive MCAA volleyball

Hillsboro and Marion combined to place seven players on the all-league rosters for the final volleyball season of the Mid-Central Activities Associa?tion.

The two schools contributed two of the three players who were unanimous selections for the first team: Dakota Kaufman, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Hillsboro, and Julia Zeiner, 5-9 outside hitter from Marion. Both are seniors.

Junior Dominique Chew, a 5-9 outside hitter for Hesston, was the other unanimous pick

Class 3A state champion, Wichita Collegiate, had three players selected for the first team: Sadie Clark, 5-11 senior outside hitter; Carley Nelson, 5-8 senior setter, and Ashia Woods, 5-11 junior middle hitter.

Joining those six players on the first team were Hillsboro?s Candace Weinbrenner, a 5-4 senior setter, and Kristin Baker, a 5-6 senior outside hitter from Smoky Valley.

Two other Trojans were receognized for their play. Taryn Mayfield, a 5-10 senior middle hitter, was picked for the second team, and Allie Faul, 5-6 junior libero, received honorable mention.

Two other Warriors also were feted. Lindsay Hett, a 5-9 senior setter, was named to the second team, and Kayley Heerey, a 5-10 senior middle hitter, received honorable mention.

The Trojans finished the season in second place in the league?s Eastern Division with a record of 13-3 and were 30-10 overall with a state tournament appearance.

The Warriors tied Smoky Valley for third in the Eastern Division with an 11-5 mark and were 25-11 for the season.
