HHS golf team enjoys best finish

Devin Dick placed fourth and Evan Ollenburger 20th to lead the Hillsboro golf team Friday at the Sacred Heart Invitational played at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Dick finished with an 86 and Ollenburger with a 91. Kyler Borg shot a 97 and Casie Allen a 114 to give the Trojans a 388 team score, good for fourth place?the team?s best finish of the season.

?Although these are still not the kind of numbers I am expecting from these guys at this point, I am pleased with their performances on this day,? coach Scott O?Hare said.

?Conditions were the toughest we have faced all year.?

The long course combined with tough, fast greens and challenging weather took its toll.

?Winds were very strong that day, and the golfers had to battle that along with periodic drizzle, mist and light rain,? O?Hare said.

?As much as I have been concerned about our ability to focus and play well in competition, I thought they responded well and played well in those conditions on Friday.

?I think it was a step in the right direction and I am anxious to see how they compete this week in hopefully better conditions.?

Three Trojan team members competed at a nine-hole junior varsity home meet Friday.

Jordan Simmons shot a 51 for fifth place, Graham Pankratz a 59 for 19th and Philip Ediger a 63 for 23rd.

Coming? The Trojans were scheduled to play at Halstead Tuesday.

They will co-host the Marion County Invitational along with Marion High School starting at 8 a.m.

The 36-hole tournament is played on the Hillsboro and Marion courses, with the field divided between the two in the morning, then switching courses in the afternoon.
