HHS girls’ end season at Berean

The Hillsboro girls, seeded seventh in its Class 2A sub-state, hung with the No. 2 seed Berean Academy Monday through the first half, but the Warriors slowly took control of the game and won by a 50-28 margin in the quarterfinal round Monday at Elbing.

The Trojans trailed 11-9 after one quarter and 18-16 at halftime. Berean stepped up its pressure and began to separate from the Trojans as the third quarter continued. By the end of it, Hillsboro trailed, 31-18.

Berean nailed down the win with a 19-10 fourth quarter.

Hillsboro finished its season with an 8-12 record, blending a lineup of seniors and freshmen.

Coach Nathan Hiebert said he was pleased with the development of his team over the season.

“There were times when we played really against good opponents,” he said. “Against Haven we did a really good job at the beginning and we fought back against Council Grove.
