HHS freshman leads team at Herington

Freshman Caleb Diener turned in a time of 19:32 to win the junior varsity race at Herington and post the fastest Trojan time.Hillsboro’s cross-country runners competed at the Herington Invitational on a warm and windy Thursday.

For the boys, Caleb Rempel placed 23rd among 35 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 41 seconds over the 5-k course. Tucker Moss placed 26th in 22:00 and Orin Blecka was 35th in 45:43.

Abby Driggers was the lone Trojan entrant in the varsity girls’ race, placing ninth among 17 runners with a time of 25:32.

In junior varsity races, Caleb Diener won the boys’ race in 19:32, Tristan Reed placed fourth in 21:12 and Jason Latham placed 22nd in 24:06 in the field of 32 runners.

In the girls’ race, Iris Klein placed second among eight runners in 25:17, Millie Sechrist placed fourth in 30:55 and Jesse Dalke came in sixth in 33:02.

Hillsboro was scheduled to run next at the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Sept. 19.

The next challenge for the team will be the Berean Invita­tional at Harvey County East Lake on Sept. 28. High school races begin at 4 p.m.
