Marion?s Jordan Hett placed third to lead his Warrior teammates to a state-qualifying third-place finish Saturday at the Class 3A regional hosted by Southeast of Saline.

?It was a beautiful day to run on Saturday, and everyone ran very well,? said coach Rebecca Hofer. ?The competition was high but the boys did well.?

Hett covered the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 9 second to qualify as an individual for state. Cory Donley of Sacred Heart won in 16:27 and Cordell Goering of Hutchinson Trinity was second in 17:02.

The boys? team finished with 84 points behind Hutch Trinity with 49 and Southeast of Saline with 64.

Contributing to the team score in addition to Hett were Patrick McCarty (12th, 18:29), Timothy Knolla (14th, 18:40), Jacob Cope (19th, 18:56) and Clark Kroupa (53rd, 21:20). Also running for Marion were Quinton Hett (61st, 21:51) and Jared Hague (64th, 21:55).

?We didn?t have any personal records,? Hofer said, ?however, the course was filled with twists and turns which slow runners down. Yet, their times are still very impressive.?

The Warriors were represented in the girls?s race by two freshmen, McKenzee Remmers, who placed 34th among 63 runners with a time of 18:31, and Shyla Harris, who placed 53rd in 20:25.

?The girls were up against a lot of very good competition too, and they both ran hard,? Hofer said. ?I am very proud of how the girls ran and I really enjoyed having them on the team.?

Coming?Jordan Hett and his teammates will travel Saturday to Rim Rock Ranch near Law?rence for the Class 3A state race. Their race is scheduled to start at noon.

This is the second year Class 3A has had its state race at Rim Rock Farm. Hett placed third last year behind fellow seniors Cory Donley and Cordell Goering, respectively.
