In its third year in existence, the Centre girls’ golf program will field just enough athletes to compete as a team this season.

Four girls complete the roster for coach Greg Wyatt.

Senior Hannah Peterson returns as a two-year letter-winner to anchor the team. She has her sights set on qualifying for the state tournament this year, Wyatt said.

“Hannah is coming off a pretty good season last year, as far as individual medals are concerned,” he said. “She won the Emporia tournament, and then placed in two or three others.”

Sophomore Mickey Spohn returns as a one-year letter-winner.

Completing the team are senior Kaitlin Brunner and freshman Avery Williams.

Wyatt said his outlook is for the Cougars to see constant improvement and qualify individuals or even the team for state.

“My outlook, obviously, is just to see them improve each and every time out there,” he said. “As long as they improve, good things are going to happen.”

Centre was scheduled to open its season at Emporia Aug. 30. The Cougars will travel to West Franklin Sept. 8.
